Introduction To Using Messages On The MBN

The MBN comes with a messages feature to allow you to send and receive messages with other members of the network without giving out your email address. You can access your inbox and send messages by logging in to the network.

As well as messages comments are great for content you don't mind other people on the network seeing — like a note on someone's profile page thanking them for joining your group, or a comment on a funny video letting the person who uploaded it know you appreciated it. For private information — like notes you might not want the whole network to see — private messages are a great way to go.

How Do I Check My Messages?

To check your private messages on the MBN, sign in and click the "Inbox" link in the right column of the network. All the private messages you've received on that network will be listed. New messages are marked by an orange dot. You can click on the sender's name to view their profile page, or click on a message's title to open that private message. You can reply, reply all, forward, archive, or delete that message. You can also block that person from sending you further private messages by clicking the "Block Sender" link from the "Actions..." drop-down menu.

How Do I Send A Private Message?

You can send private messages to anyone you're friends with on the MBN. You can also exchange private messages with the Network Creator and Admins of the network, even if you're not friends.

To send a private message, click the "Inbox" link in the right column of the network. Click the "Compose" link. You can enter people by email address in the "To" field, or click the "Choose from friends" link to select someone from your friends list on the network.

To send a message to the Network Creator or Admin if you're not friends, go to their profile page and click the "Send a Message" link. 

How Do I Add Someone As A Friend?

If you find someone on your network you'd like to be able to send private messages to or invite to your groups or events, you can add them as your friend on the network. You can even add a note to your friend request to them. Once you add them as a friend, they'll receive a notification that you'd like to be friends. They can then choose to accept the friend requests and become friends with you, or ignore the request.

To send a friend request to someone on the network, go to their profile page. Click the "Add as friend" link under their profile photo. A confirmation window will pop up. If you'd like to add a note to your friend request, click the "Add a personal message" link. Some people don't feel comfortable accepting friend requests from people they don't know, so this is a great way to let them know how you might know each other or why you'd like to be friends.
