My name is Connie Achterberg, my husband Bill and I are the owners of a large home, converted to be a supportive home for seniors and veterans. It is located in a rural area of BC, 20 Km north of Clinton, 50 Km south of 100 Mile house, in the rolling hills of the South Cariboo, surrounded by many lakes. Abbeyfield Houses Society of Clinton is now open for 8 residents, where we offer them a welcoming home. The Abbeyfield society is a non-profit society, started in England more than 50 years ago and is now present in many countries. Canada has 30 homes, 22 in British Columbia.
The guiding principals include: To create a welcoming and affordable place to live for the elderly.
All resident will keep their independence and privacy, but in case they need support, it is available 24 hours. Meals are supplied, and laundry service may be available. If additional services are needed like bathing and medication dispensing, a home care person will visit.
Very soon we will be adding a service package to guests as well, including hair care, foot care and massage therapy, by 3 local ladies. Refreshments will be served. The focus is to create a bond with seniors living on their own, but like to enjoy an outing and some pampering.
